Our gun dog training program will prepare your best friend to hunt upland fields and from the duck blind. Gun dog training starts as early as 6 months of age. Training begins with teaching basic obedience commands, which include sit (sit means stay), heel, here, place, sit-to-whistle, come-to-whistle and kennel.

The second part of the gun dog training program consists of teaching the force hold and force retrieve commands, while solidifying those commands through collar conditioning. After completion of the yard work, the dogs will move into the field where they will transition those basic skills to upland and waterfowl hunting. Your buddy will quarter a field and stay within gun range, retrieve a marked bird fall, deliver to hand, and be steady in the duck blind.

When your retriever starts fieldwork, you are strongly encouraged to participate in training, making a better transition from trainer to handler, and an overall better “team” attitude. On average, our gun dog training program takes about four months, but it could take longer depending on how quickly the dog learns. *Our pride is making the program fit the dog, not the dog fitting into the program.*

The Gun Dog training fee is $1100 per a month. Payment of $1100 is expected upon arrival with the dog for the first month then $1100 thereafter. The length of Gun Dog training is estimated to take four to five months, and this includes board, feeding of a premium dog food, and any training birds. Dogs are kenneled and trained on 500 acres, with four technical ponds and various channels. We also have access to over 2200 additional acres with more water features. If the client decides to pull the dog out earlier than the 4 to 5 months gun dog training or only wishes for 1 to 3 months of training, there is an additional fee of $100 per month.

Advanced Training (handling) is billed at $1100 per month.
